Portugal Holiday Planner

 Capital:  Lisbon

Currency: Euro

Language: Portuguese

Climate: Portugal offers a diverse climate, generally warm Mediterranean with hot summers and mild, wet winters, making it a popular year-round tourism spot, especially the sunny Algarve in the south and milder Azores/Madeira islands, attracting visitors for beaches, surfing, culture, and wine in shoulder seasons (spring/autumn) to avoid peak summer heat and crowds, though winter is great for fewer tourists and surfing.

Electricity: Powersockets and plugs of type  F  -230V at a frequency of 50Hz

Safety:  Portugal is generally a very safe destination for tourists, consistently ranking among the most peaceful countries in the world. The primary safety concerns for travelers are non-violent, preventable incidents like petty theft and common scams, mainly in major tourist areas.

Transportation:  Portugal offers diverse, efficient, and affordable transport for tourists, combining modern trains (like the fast Alfa Pendular) and extensive bus networks (Rede Expressos) for city-to-city travel, with historic trams (Lisbon's yellow trams) and metro systems in cities, plus ride-sharing (Uber, Bolt) and taxis, while car rentals provide rural flexibility.

Must see & do attractions

Berlengas:

The Berlengas Archipelago is a small group of Islands 10km of the Portuguese coast, West of the town of peniche. The area is a nature reserve, and the islands are virtually unspoiled.
Many bird species use the islands as an ideal refuge during their migration. The waters on the island are crystal clear and invite for a refreshing dip.
The islands are the perfect location for snorkelling or scuba diving.

Covento de Cristo

Founded by Gualdim Pais in 1160, this magnificent stronghold was originally built to defend against the Moors. Over the centuries, Portugal’s kings and grand masters added cloisters, chapels, and architectural flourishes, transforming it into the extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site we see today (designated in 1983). Located in the town of Tomar in the Centro region, the Convento de Cristo is absolutely worth a visit.
