Full test review

Oakley was started by James Jannard in 1975 out of his garage with an initial investment of $300. Since those early beginnings in the mid seventies, Oakley has developed in a world renowned manufacturer of sports performance equipment and lifestyle pieces.

But Oakley are probably best known for their high performance sport visors, ski goggles and high performance sunglasses
It is the latter one we got to test over the summer, a pair of white Oakley Field Jacket Prizm glasses.

Oakley has invested so much in development (the 600 patents speak for itself) that all their high performance glasses are filled to the rim with technology

And the Oakley Field Jacket glasses are no different, let's just look at the lenses alone:

The technology and design which went into the development of Oakley's lenses has resulted in some of the best lenses in the world and the reason why so many top athletes choose Oakley performance glasses.

First, there is the Oakley Prizm lens which provides excellent control of light transmission providing you with brilliant contrast. We tested these glasses on our cycle through Spain in the middle of June, and these glasses lived up to the standard of providing us with protection and giving us those accurate colours maximizing contrast and enhancing visibility. This is especially handy when you are trying to navigate the many dusty roads through rural Spain.

There is a great choice of lens colours too, from Prism Sapphire with a 12% light transmission to the Prizm Trail torch with a 35% light transmission

And then there is the frame. Oakley invested a lot of time and effort in trying to eliminate fogging of the lens. And oh boy have they succeeded. The Advancer nosebridge allows for adjustment of the nosebridge position allowing for increased airflow without affecting the glasses their capability of blocking sunlight.

The frame itself is made from Oakley's patented O-Matter which has proven itself over the years. It is light, flexible and incredible durable and strong.
The frame of the Field Jacket is oversized creating great protection and comes in a selection of colours. And off course there is the Unobtainium nosepads which keep these glasses where they should be , on your nose.

So what you also get is the Oakley sunglass case (vault) which is very sturdy and will protect your glasses with it's dear life. The case is black with a huge Oakley logo on the top. When you open it, you find enough space to put your Oakley Field Jacket in it.

Then there is also the Oakley cleaning cloth which doubles up as a pouch.

So the big question is, how do these glasses perform. Well, I tried them out in sunny Spain during my cycle from Santander to Malaga this summer, and i must say, i was well impressed by their performance. So much so that they are now my favourite glasses.
For me, these are currently the best performance glasses i have ever worn and it will be the ones I will keep wearing through all seasons going forward. We will keep testing these glasses during our 2020 adventures, especially our adventure cycle from Portugal to Spain. Want to discover more about these glasses, visit

How we tested it

We have been using the Oakley Field jackets over a timeframe of 6 months in all conditions. From overcast days to bright sunny days, from cycling in Ireland in 5 degrees to cycling in Spain in 38 degrees height, these glasses just do what they are supposed to do.
The Oakley Field jackets are highly recommended.
