Hotel Playa de Lago is a charming family‑run hotel set in a stunning location in the heart of Galicia’s Costa da Morte. With one of the area’s largest and most beautiful beaches right on its doorstep, it’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a peaceful coastal escape. The hotel’s quiet atmosphere, combined with its excellent restaurant, makes it even more inviting—you can watch the sun set over the water from the patio while enjoying a meal prepared with the freshest local ingredients.
Clean, comfortable rooms and genuine family hospitality make this small hotel a wonderful choice for travellers looking for authenticity, relaxation, and a true taste of Galicia.

Full test review
When I arrived at Hotel Playa de Lago, I was welcomed by a friendly girl who booked me in with no delays. The bike was stored safely for the night inside the hotel which was a nice touch. In front of the hotel is a large car park that can be used for free by anybody arriving by car / motorcycle. The reception hall is simple but clean and a large stairwell brought me to the first floor where my room was located.
The room:
I booked a single room, which still comes with a double bed and all the modern comforts you’d expect. In fact, the single rooms offer the same amenities as the higher‑category rooms, with the only exception being the lack of a balcony.
The room itself is very spacious, featuring a large and comfortable bed that guarantees a good night’s sleep, a work desk, a refrigerator, and a full bathroom stocked with toiletries. It’s clean, practical, and ideal for a relaxing stay.
The restaurant:
The hotel’s restaurant includes an air‑conditioned dining room with space for around 50 guests, as well as an outdoor patio. Since the weather was beautiful, I chose to sit outside and enjoy a table overlooking the stunning beach.
The menu focuses on dishes prepared with 100% local produce and highlights the traditional cuisine of the region—fresh seafood, quality meats, and everything paired with excellent local wines. The homemade desserts are a real treat as well.
Some of the house specialities include rice with lobster, seafood grills, and beautifully prepared grilled fish. I chose croquetas as a starter and grilled fish for my main course. With the incredible views and a few glasses of local white wine, it made for a perfect evening.

The area:
Just steps from the hotel lies one of the most breathtaking beaches you can imagine—a long stretch of golden sand framed by a peaceful pine forest and lapped by crystal‑clear Atlantic waters that practically invite you in for a swim. The wider region is a showcase of natural beauty, defined by its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and unspoiled beaches that feel wonderfully untouched.
Beyond the shoreline, you’ll find charming towns such as Muxía and A Ponte do Porto, each offering its own blend of culture, scenery, and authentic Galician character. It’s an area that rewards slow exploration and invites you to soak in its wild, coastal charm.
