Haven Coast

Back to destination Wild Atlantic Way
The haven coast stretches from Kinsale to Bantry bay and is the southernmost stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way. The area is known for its mild gulf stream climate and has many blue flag beaches

Must see & do attractions

Bantry House:

Bantry House is a stately home overlooking Bantry Bay.  The house has a huge private collection of furniture and objects.
The house was home to Captain richard White and his family for many years.
The gardens are worth a visit as well. Especially worthwhile is climbing the stairwell connecting the terraces reminiscent of stately Italian gardens at the back of the house.

Mizen Head:

Mizen Head Signal Station is located at Ireland's most Southwesterly point. Enjoy the views, dare to cross the bridge across the gorge, discover and experience the light keeper's lives.

Whale watching:

Whale watching in cork is now at a high point with many whale species using the South coast of Ireland as a feeding ground during the summer months.
The waters are a year round home for several resident dolphin species. There are many companies along the haven coast providing whale and dolphin watching trips.

Most spectacular walk

Sheep's Head trail:

The Sheep's Head Way is a 200km walking route located on the narrow Sheep's Head peninsula in West Cork between Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay.

Must try dish

Clonakilty Black Pudding

Clonakilty black pudding which should be enjoyed with a full Irish fried breakfast. Always a great start to the day, one which will keep you going for a couple of hours.

Toughest Sport event

Rolex Fastnet Race

This sailing race is a famous biennial offshore yacht race which starts on the Isle of Wight and goes as far as fastnet Rock. The weather is the biggest factor in making this race unpredicatable.
