Full test review
Due to work commitments, I had to stay in County Cavan. The choice was quickly made, I would be staying 2 nights at Farnham Estate in County Cavan.
I arrived at Farnham estate around 8pm on a winter evening, fog had made the drive to County Cavan a difficult one where the roads winding between the many lakes seemed endless.
Delighted to have arrived, I turned into the extensive grounds of Farnham Estate, 1300 acres to be exact of landscaped gardens, an 18 hole golf course and extensive walkways allowing you to discover the fabulous gardens of Farnham Estate.
After having parked the car, you can call for a shuttle bus which will pick you up at the car park and bring you to the hotel, i opted to walk.
The old house is still intact and is part of the hotel, the old entrance into the house is now part of the large glass lobby.
Reception:
The reception area is airy and bright.

The room:
After a quick check-in , I made my way over to the new wing. The standard room was less than standard, the modern interior was welcoming.
The warm colour scheme of the room was inviting, on the large bed were slippers and bathrobes, a large workdesk was also available.
My room looked out towards the swimming pool and gym, but I would only notice the beauty of the estate the next morning.
The bathroom is large and is fitted with a bath for those relaxing soaks. And a great feature is that there is a sliding panel between the bathroom and the bedroom, so you can have a conversation with your partner while having a soak in the bath. Within the large room is a comfort a chair and a chaise longue.

The restaurant:
With a great selection of food offerings, we opted on that particular evening for the Botanica restaurant (now known as Maxwells). The restaurant is cozy and it's interior is modern. We opted for the set dinner menu which at €45 for a three course (€37 for two course menu) menu turned out to be great value for the quality food which being served. (Note: this menu is now €59 for three courses or €45 for 2 course dinner).
I went for the goat cheese as starter followed by venison for the main course all finished with a fabulous cheese platter.
As it was a work dinner, I didn't take any pictures of the food, but you just have to take my word for it, the food is not only delicious, it is also a visual feast.
The spa:
The award winning spa is one of the top luxury spa's in Ireland. The 44,000 sq ft Health Spa is a calm world of peace and serenity, one where you get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
With an outdoor pool, there is nothing nicer than swimming in the great outdoors while Cavan's lush green fields surround you. The luxurious relaxation rooms ooze style and tranquility while the world-famous ESPA range of products and treatments are the perfect combination for a luxurious spa break.

I enjoyed my stay at Farnham estate, one which I will repeat in the near future. But the next time, I will bring Dolores and try out more what the hotel has to offer.
